Laws Gee Whiz Facts

There are over 100 million words in federal statutes and rules, including a 300-word definition of “and/or.” Mercifully, of the 4,000 or so bills considered by Congress each year, only about 10% pass.

The great book by Philip K. Howard entitled The Death of Common Sense -- How Law is Suffocating America is a must read, addressing waste ranging from the absurdity of OSHA's 4,000+ detailed regulations (including 140 regs on wooden ladders) to the 2-year process that New York City needs to fix a sagging floor.

Laws and gate keepers have bloomed like weeds, reminiscent of Orwell´s famous 1984, with big brother (the government) tracking our every move. The greatest victory of Al Qaeda in attacking the WTC was driving our excessive security precautions and costs for years to come.
